Activities for the Armed Services

Norfolk and Newport News

Although the area of Norfolk and Newport News, Virginia, is known primarily as a Navy center, it also contains Army and Air Force installations. This diversity in our armed forces tends to make the work of Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services unusually interesting and varied.

In Norfolk and Newport News we have two Christian Science Ministers for the Armed Services and three Christian Science Representatives in the Armed Services. The Representatives assist the Ministers, and together these five men serve twelve armed forces installations, one Navy hospital, and one Veterans' Administration Hospital. As a general rule, they report, there are between one hundred and one hundred and thirty-five Christian Scientists in the area. These figures do not include the dependents of these service personnel, many of whom are Christian Scientists and have been assisted by our Ministers and Representatives.
