"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...
In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we find these words (Pref., p. vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Trusting God and leaning upon Him has taken care of me in all ways. Christian Science has been my only physician for most of my life. I have had numerous instantaneous healings, as well as others requiring diligent searching of thought, which in turn brought greater unfoldment. The following experience was an example of the latter kind of healing.
Suffering from an internal organic disease, I found it necessary to do much self-examination. Failing to accomplish the healing by my own efforts, I asked for the help of a consecrated practitioner; but as I did not respond to the treatment, I felt that I was not co-operating in the right manner. I prayerfully asked to be shown the right way, and opening to page 185 of "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy, I read: "Self-renunciation of all that constitutes a so-called material man, and the acknowledgment and achievement of his spiritual identity as the child of God, is Science that opens the very flood-gates of heaven; whence good flows into every avenue of being, cleansing mortals of all uncleanness, destroying all suffering, and demonstrating the true image and likeness." As I corrected thought along this line I began to improve at once. In a very brief time I was free and able to do my housework.
The instant declaration of man's spiritual being was the means of bringing about an immediate healing of the effects of an accident. Catching my heel on the top step of the stairs leading into the basement of a storeroom, I tripped and plunged headfirst to the floor below. My last thought before losing consciousness was, "God is my Life." When I regained consciousness I realized that nothing had happened to God and that the same was true of His image and likeness, man. I knew that, in reality, I was His likeness and that nothing could prevent my proving it. Reasoning in this way, I was very soon on my feet and climbing the stairs. I was able to walk six blocks to my home with no difficulty whatever, and I declared my freedom all the way.
