Satisfying Answers

[Contributed by a teacher in a branch church Sunday School]

After I had been teaching very young children in our branch church Sunday School for a time, the superintendent asked me to take a class of the oldest pupils. I accepted the appointment, knowing that the work would be very different, but I knew also that divine Mind would provide the needed guidance.

These children were inquisitive about how to apply Christian Science to their home life, social activities, and schoolwork. I knew that the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly contained the answers they were seeking and that the teaching should help them to see how practically the lessons would serve them. As the pupils reached out for guidance in applying to their individual problems the truths which they were taught in class, it became apparent that my ability to give specific and helpful answere to their questions was commensurate with my own consecration and unselfed endeavor. In my study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy, I found a new talent for discerning the heart of a question and giving a satisfying answer.

To illustrate: a young student who was soon to graduate from high school said that although she wanted to continue her education, there was no possibility of doing so. Through individual home assignments I directed her thought to the illimitable nature of Love and to the ceaseless operation of divine Principle, which is always favorable to man. Every instance of healing cited in the Lesson-Sermons was emphasized as a proof of the power of divine Mind to overthrow any tenacious concepts which would tend to limit right activity. Before graduation from high school, the way opened for her to attend a university.
