MEETING THE NEED

"Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." These comforting and thought-provoking words from page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy appear on the walls of many Churches of Christ, Scientist.

The author had accepted the comforting message of these words and often quoted them as a help to others. But more of their import came to him one day after reasoning that Love is not aware of sin, disease, and death, for these are but shadow pictures projected by mortal mind. He asked himself, "How, then, does divine Love meet the need for healing and regeneration, for supply and reformation?" He saw that needs seem to be material, but that they are not. In all cases the primary need is for a clearer understanding of the nature and allness of God.

"God is love," declared the inspired John (I John 4:8). Our loving Father-Mother God is ever sustaining man with His infinite love. Divine Love always meets the human yearning to know God better and to love Him more. God has bestowed on man HIs divine nature and endowed him with His qualities and attributes. In proportion to our acceptance of this fact, we find our human needs are met.
