My gratitude for the testimonies...

My gratitude for the testimonies published in our periodicals is boundless. At one time I was tormented day and night by weeping eczema inside the ears. I had grown very much discouraged and feared I should never be free.

One morning while reading the testimonies in The Christian Science Journal, I came across an account of a healing of the same condition that was driving me to despair. The writer named the disease and was humbly grateful for his complete release. I read and reread his testimony. Then I found myself suddenly in tears of gratitude for his healing. When I next thought of the condition some time later, I realized in awe and humble gratitude that I was healed. As our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says of mortal mind (Science and Health, p. 152), "It would wield the sceptre of a monarch, but it is powerless."

I should like to tell of another healing that was outstanding in my experience. One evening as I was saying good night to some members of my family, one of them accidentally slammed the car door on my hand. They were filled with concern, but I assured them I would be all right, and they drove away. I hurried into the house and saw that two fingers were badly lacerated. The pain was so intense that I could not stand still, nor could I summon a single statement of Truth to aid me. After about ten minutes I wrapped some tissue around my fingers and went into the living room. I picked up Science and Health, sat down on the sofa, and commenced to read. Almost instantly every vestige of pain and nervousness vanished. When my husband came in a little later, I did not mention the accident to him. Before long my hand was entirely normal.
