My gratitude for Christian Science...
My gratitude for Christian Science grows greater with every passing year. On page 183 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes, "Spiritual apprehension unfolds, transfigures, heals." The truth of her words has been proved in my life since I began to study Science.
Before hearing of this wonderful truth, I suffered from chronic catarrh, flat feet, so-called inherited nervous dyspepsia, and many minor difficulties. I was of a nervous disposition and was a constant victim of fears of one sort or another. Life to me seemed one unanswered problem, a continual striving after some unobtainable goal; I found no real peace or lasting satisfaction anywhere. Christian Science has changed all that and given me a most satisfying answer to the problems of human existence, in addition to healing my physical difficulties. It has replaced fear and anxiety with a joyous assurance born of some apprehension of God's allness and ever-presence. The sense of strife has given way to an indescribable spiritual peace, and I have experienced true joy and deep satisfaction.
Once, when my husband and I were on a pleasure cruise, I injured my foot while playing deck games. The foot became very much swollen, and the bones appeared badly out of place. The people nearby were much concerned and wanted to fetch the ship's surgeon. I refused this kind offer and after thanking them managed to reach our cabin with my husband's help. He worked steadily for me until the extreme pain was overcome. Then I was able to rise above self-pity and realize that nothing could take away my joy or mar the happiness of the other members of our party. I opened the Bible to these words (Ps. 34:19, 20): "Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. He keepth all his bones: not one of them is broken."
