SEEING EYES AND HEARING EARS

In II Chronicles it is recorded that God said to Solomon (7:15), "Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place." Christian Science reveals God as ever-present divine intelligence, which is cognizant of all good and only good. From God, divine intelligence, are derived man's faculties, which are wholly spiritual. In God, divine Mind, there is no blindness or obstruction, but only transparent clarity of divine intelligence. Because Mind is God and God is All, there is no mortal mind or material personality to interfere with man's reflection of divine intelligence.

Mary Baker Eddy further defines intelligence in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 469): "Intelligence is omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence. It is the primal and eternal quality of infinite Mind, of the triune Principle,—Life, Truth, and Love,—named God." Divine intelligence, through whose reflected light and understanding man sees and hears, is as ever present as the light of the sun, even though mortal belief may seem sometimes to obscure it.

In proof of the ever-availability of divine intelligence as "the primal and eternal quality of infinite Mind," a student of Christian Science received a practically instantaneous healing of total blindness in one eye, apparently caused by an impaired nerve. When she realized that activity is not in nerve or matter, but in Spirit, and that true perception, discernment, and understanding are outside of and unrelated to matter, normal vision was restored within a few minutes' time.
