I first heard of Christian Science...

I first heard of Christian Science in 1929. It was at the time of the so-called depression, and my husband was unemployed. We had two small children, and our resources were exhausted. In the midst of our troubles some dear friends who had just found Christian Science brought the glad tidings to me.

My husband bitterly opposed what he thought Christian Science to be, so I did not attend church or purchase Mrs. Eddy's books. Jesus tells us (Matt. 5:6), "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." My friends supplied me with copies of the Sentinel, and in my hunger and thirst for the truth I read every word of them and was filled with gratitude.

My husband obtained a position, and a steady outpouring of God's abundance followed. However, there was still much opposition in the home, and Christian Science was pursued no further. In 1940, when the doctors had done all they could for me and it looked as if I would not live to raise my children, I approached my husband again on the matter of Christian Science. He finally gave his consent for me to have treatment.
