At the outset of my experiences...

At the outset of my experiences in Christian Science I thought that I was not being good enough to be known as a Christian Scientist, and therefore that I should wait before I applied for church membership or testified of the benefits of Christian Science.

Upon voicing this thought to a friend, I was told that church membership afforded one excellent opportunity in which to grow spiritually. This proved to be so, and for a good many years I have had many blessings through the activity of church membership. Mrs. Eddy's definition of "Church" in Science and Health is in part (p. 583), "The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds front divine Principle." It has been proved in my experience that divine Principle, which is God, does heal. It is ever in operation for good, and I know there is spiritual healing for all who earnestly seek it.

One day while I was eating, an inch-long bone became lodged in my throat. There was much coughing and choking in an effort to dislodge it, but with no apparent results. I was at the home of a friend who was not a Christian Scientist. She urged me to go to a doctor to have the bone removed, but I declined lovingly, saving that I would rather go home. Upon arriving there. I tried again to dislodge the bone, but to no avail. Then I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner for help. He assured me that there is no obstruction in divine Mind, and a most wonderful sense of freedom filled my consciousness. The practitioner gave me some references to study; and as I walked away from the telephone there was a flooding in my throat and the bone became dislodged without an physical effort on my part. It was painless, and a perfect demonstration of the law of divine Mind in operation. God is good.
