It is with deepest gratitude that...
It is with deepest gratitude that I write this testimony that it may help others to know that "with God all things are possible" (Mark 10:27). It has been proved to me that when we rely absolutely on God, scientific healing comes into our experience.
About three and a half years ago, while crossing a busy highway at dusk, I was struck by an automobile which was going at a high rate of speed. The force of the blow tossed me into the air. Even before I landed I declared that God is here, and I found myself pounding on the ground with my fist making this declaration.
My husband appeared at the scene very quickly, as he had been waiting for me just a block away. Thus he was able to protect me from being taken to the hospital and to insist that I be taken home immediately. It was here that he took his stand for Truth. My daughter, who had been brought up in Science and was well grounded in its truths, greeted me with love and positive declarations of God's power. As soon as possible a practitioner was called, and consecrated work was taken up immediately.
I was unable to use my legs; the calf of one leg had been badly injured when the car hit it, one ankle was hurt, and there were internal injuries. X rays which were taken later, as requested by the insurance company, showed that there had been a fractured pelvis and hip and dislocation of the other hip, but that the bones had set and the healing was taking place. The bone specialist who was consulted declared that the healing was marvelous and that I had nothing to worry about.
The work done by the practitioner was so wonderful that at no time did I suffer any pain, and I felt well in spite of the material evidence. The practitioner told me that I must do my part and that the work would complete the healing. I am grateful to say that I never had any fear. I remained in bed for five weeks, studying and holding to the truth. At the sixth week I was able to go downstairs and out in the car and was able to walk with only a cane to steady me. No other aids were used.
The calf of the leg showed a serious gangrenous condition, which, however, due to the protective work done, never went beyond that area. New tissue and ligaments grew and filled in the gap. A doctor was sent to my home by the insurance company for examination at the seventh week. At that time the leg was clean and healing was taking place. This doctor reported that I never would have a healing unless skin was grafted. This, of course, was never considered by us. At six months the flesh had filled in and the skin grown over. I could walk normally once more.
I cannot be grateful enough for the consecrated work of the practitioner. A disturbed organic action and internal bleeding were also healed. The practitioner made only three visits to our home. I relate this to show that it is the faithful work, the loving thought, and not person, that brings the healing. The hymns were a constant source of joy, and the Christian Science periodicals were a continuous support.
Over five years ago we had another proof of the power of this Science to heal. My husband, who was not a Christian Scientist at the time, was in the hospital suffering from a kidney and bladder difficulty, and had been given up by medical specialists. I asked the above-mentioned practitioner for Christian Science help, and my husband was immediately released from the hospital. He gained weight, slept normally, and was free from pain. He returned to work in three months' time. The healing has been permanent.
For all the blessings that have come to our family I am deeply grateful. I am also grateful to be able to serve our great newspaper, The Christian Science Monitor, in a small way. Membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church is a constant inspiration. Truly God is the only physician, and with Him all things are possible.—(Mrs.)Myrtle H. Foote, West Springfield, Massachusetts.
