WHENCE AND WHITHER?

The words whence and whither in the interrogative sense apply only to mortals. Man, the son of God, has no need to question his origin or his destination. God being his Mind, he knows himself as idea, dwelling eternally in that Mind. He knows that as the offspring of divine Love he cannot depart from his mission, which is to express Love's qualities, for his impulsion is divine omnipotence. The omnipresence of Truth is his safeguard, imparting the eternal consciousness of divine direction and protection, supporting him with the assurance of complete provision and supply.

"I know whence I came, and whither I go," said our Way-shower, Christ Jesus (John 8:14). This followed his statement, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Speaking to the Pharisees, he said: "Ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.... Ye judge after the flesh."

The flesh, or the fleshly mind, so called, cannot know God or man; therefore it cannot know the Christ, or Way. It follows illusion and loses itself in the darkness of materiality; but when it is ready to admit the fact of its own unreality, it is ready to yield to Christian Science. When this Science dawns in human consciousness, the fleshly sense begins to disappear.
