Lawrence, Kansas (First Church).

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Lawrence, at 1701 Massachusetts Street, was dedicated on Sunday, September 30, 1951, at services held in the morning and in the afternoon.

Organized on August 1, 1895, the church first held services in a residence and then in a downtown hall until 1911. In June of that year property was purchased on the corner of 13th and Massachusetts Streets, and the building was remodeled and used for church services until March, 1946.

That property was sold, and the site of the present building was purchased in March, 1948. The new church edifice was completed in February, 1949, and the first services were held in that building on February 27, 1949.

The church has maintained a Christian Science Reading Room continuously since 1896. The Reading Room is now located in the Professional Building.
