Mrs. Eddy says on page 494 of...
Mrs. Eddy says on page 494 of Science and Health, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." I offer the following testimony as evidence that divine Love has met my need. About eighteen years ago I was suffering from what the doctors diagnosed as gall bladder infection, fallen kidney, chronic appendicitis, and two tumors. The surgeons at a very famous hospital advised an operation, telling member's of my family that my life expectancy was approximately six months, but the operation might prolong it a bit.
I felt that if I went into the hospital I would not come out alive. However, I allowed the members of my family to persuade me to go through with it. The date was set for a certain Monday afternoon at four. The preceding Saturday I had written letters of farewell and instruction to my family, packed my bag, and was standing before the window, thinking it would be the last lovely spring I would see, when the thought came to me as clearly as though someone were speaking, "If God is all good and all love and is kind, as I have heard it said He is, I ought to be healed without this operation."
I turned from the window to greet a dear friend who had come in to see me. She handed me several papers, saying, "Perhaps you'll find something in here to help you." After seeing the name Christian Science Sentinel on one of them, I tossed the papers on my bed. Later, because I had nothing else in the house to read, I opened one of them at the Testimonies of Healing section. I read several, and then, like the proverbial drowning man grasping at the straw, I called my little friend back, asking if she could put me in touch with a practitioner. She was happy to do this and assured me that Christian Science would help me. The practitioner could not see me until Monday morning at eleven. My friend drove me to the practitioner's home, and I spent two hours with her. On leaving I asked about my diet, because for two years I had suffered great pain with every bit of food I ate, and she said I could eat anything I wanted.
