WHERE DO WE STAND?

Where do we stand along the road?

Is it on Mount of Olives,
Dark in the Garden of Gethsemane;
Hurt and sick from failing human hopes,
"Sleeping for sorrow"?

Or is it beneath the cross,
Watching a good man suffer; beset by a world
Of present bitter injustice, the vision of righteousness
Pierced and dead?

Or is it by Galilee?

The stone of ultimate weight he has proved to be weightless
And has come with the dawn where we fished the futile waters,
Turning our eyes to sight and our hands to healing;
Pointing us to the mount: not fear but prayer;
Giving to us the cross: not death but triumph;
Guiding us in the Way: our instant task,
"Feed my sheep."
