Sight is restored when spiritual light breaks through veil of false belief
THE PURE IN HEART SHALL SEE
Students of Christian Science are gratefully learning to utilize their spiritual senses. Through the enlightenment which comes from the study and application of revealed truth their outlook on daily living is strengthened and purified, their understanding of true selfhood clarified, and the fact of man's oneness with God ever more fully acknowledged and appreciated.
This Science teaches each student to look to God, the one source and foundation of being, for the supply of every need. A dictionary definition of the word "look" is "to have or exercise the visual sense; to see." Many helpful thoughts are found by studying this word in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, which reveal the divine nature of sight, enabling one to comprehend man's perfection as the reflection of Spirit, and thus to claim identification with all right ideas, including perception, vision, and discernment.
In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," our Leader gives the spiritual interpretation of eyes (p. 586): "Spiritual discernment, —not material but mental." It is obvious that the ability to discern Truth, to be aware of spiritual being, is in consciousness and never can be bestowed materially by the so-called physical senses. Because God is Mind, His creation consists solely of ideas; and in Soul, which is true consciousness, man's senses exist as spiritually mental.
