A schoolteacher impersonalizes evil, and a pupil becomes co-operative

MAKE NOTHING OF IT

Upon her return to school one fall, a teacher found on her class roll the name of a boy who had proved to be a problem to all his teachers. His conduct was so exasperating that his former teachers with one accord referred to him as a nuisance. Small wonder that the new teacher's heart was filled with forebodings and she found herself wondering how she would cope with the situation.

This teacher was a student of Christian Science, but as yet was far from realizing that in this Science of the Christ, as discovered by Mary Baker Eddy and revealed in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," lay the answer to all problems of whatever name or nature. So she, as those before her, resorted to the ordinary methods of discipline: the child was kept after school, deprived of certain privileges, pleaded with, but to no avail. Finally, she too felt tempted to label the boy a nuisance.

However, this teacher was earnest and sincere in her desire to grow in spiritual understanding and daily studied the Lesson-Sermon as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. One day she was seated at her desk in deep thought, for she was gravely aware that the problem must be solved. In sheer desperation she cried aloud, "O God, tell me what to do about this." In reply to her cry came the answer as clearly as if spoken by a person, "Make nothing of it."
