My first experience of Christian Science...

My first experience of Christian Science healing took place in the home of a friend some years ago. I knew that my friend had been healed through Science after there was no hope for her recovery through medical means. She saw my need of help for an internal trouble. After a little talk she asked me if I would like to have a doctor or Christian Science treatment, and she left me to think it over and make my choice. Returning to my room shortly, she appeared radiant. I saw that she had something which I did not have, and that I needed it. Almost at once the trouble lifted, and I was able to rise and dress myself and go downstairs. I lay on the couch while my friend read to me from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and soon I was asleep. On waking, I experienced the joy of my first healing. On Sunday I attended the church service.

I was helped to overcome a sense of bereavement at the passing on of my husband and later of my only son. I have learned that God and man are inseparable.

During the London blitz in 1940 I experienced God's protection. My house was damaged, but two friends and I had gone into a shelter, and we suffered no injury. The words of Mrs. Eddy's poem (Poems, p. 4) starting, "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power," came often to my thought while I was in the shelter.
