I am humbly grateful to God for...

I am humbly grateful to God for the events which led me to Christian Science, for it was in this Science that I found Him.

When I was a small child, but old enough to reason, I was very much disturbed over what I was being taught in Sunday School. Reason did not permit me to believe that God was seated on a throne in heaven or that soul was in the body, and that when one had finished his earthly existence the soul would escape from the body and proceed to heaven or descend to perdition.

My quest for God continued through the years without success, and my longing to know Him was like that of Job when he cried (job 23:3), "Oh that I knew where I might find him!" This mental turmoil reached a climax when I was a senior in high school, at which time I became the victim of a severe pain at the base of the brain. This pain was aggravated by ordinary light and was most excruciating in sunlight and artificial light. Physicians could not diagnose the case, but recommended that I stay in a dark room and wear very dark glasses. I tried this and after three months there was sufficient improvement for me to leave this confinement, but I always seemed to need the dark glasses.
