Be Still and Know

"God was not in the wind."
Jesus arose and rebuked the wind,
Commanding the waves to still;
At once they obeyed his will,
And there was a great calm.
"God was not in the earthquake."
Though the mighty rocks may be riven
And darkness cover the earth,
To man, God's son, it is given
To perceive the uplifted Christ
In the harmony of heaven.
"God was not in the fire."
Fire consumes the dross,
And man finds gain
In the loss
Of the worthless and vain.
Behold, from the embers unfold
The gleams of pure gold!
Oh, wayward and sorrowful hearts,
Be still and know, and hear
Truth speak in "a still small voice"
To the listening ear.
Arise, rejoice!
