God's Thoughts

I saw at set of sun how mountains lay
As jagged patterns penciled on the sky,
And their profile in granite seemed to try
To reach beyond the end of fading ray.
I let my eyes and thoughts the moment stay
On distant hills the Master climbed so high,
Where all were taught the lessen of supply
When Jesus fed the multitude one day.

In bas-relief against the blue they told
Of pilgrimage to purer atmosphere.
I saw him bless the bread and fish for men
And learned how God's abundant thoughts unfold
Until all human needs in good appear
And mountains break forth into song again.
