Songs in the Night
What
think you were the songs
That Paul and Silas sang
In the stocks; perhaps they sang
The joys of liberty,
Of freedom to move
At God's command, to be
Doing good works.
When their free voices rang
In that prison house
And sang sweet praise to God.
Whose law eternally
Declares His children free—
God's unalterable decree!
Rejoice, sing songs in the night:
Let your voices rise
In praise to the All-powerful.
The perfect, the All-wise!
