Does Prayer Really Save?

"The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." To the one fighting his way through what appears to be a jungle of material beliefs, these opening words of the chapter on Prayer in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, have often been the first indication that salvation from sin disease, danger, or death is not a matter of chance or a whim of a distant God. Our Leader says, immediately following this quotation. "Regardless of what another may say or think on this subject, I speak from experience."

Hundreds of grateful men, women, and children join with Mrs. Eddy and reiterate. "We too speak from experience." That they can speak from experience in this respect is the definite answer to the question, "Does prayer heal?"

Prayer does heal and save. It heals, in the measure of the individual's understanding, all kinds of discord—physical or mental— when scientifically based, as in Christian Science, on the true understanding of God, and of man in His image and likeness. This Science is a practical, provable religion. It can be profitably applied to every phase of daily living, including business, school, family, and social relationships.
