Serenity

Journal-Herald Dayton, Ohio

We people of the earth need to be reminded constantly that serenity belongs to us. Now this serenity, this tranquillity, has in it no element of indifference. It contains no least particle of stolidity or sluggishness.

Nor is it to be obtained by retreat from one's fellows. True, solitude offers opportunity for the individual to seek a knowledge of the presence of God, but unless it be used in this manner it can be of itself a sorrow, a misfortune, a great and empty loneliness.
