It is a great privilege to have...

It is a great privilege to have grown up in a family where Christian Science was studied and demonstrated, also to have attended the Sunday school.

Through the years, joy and gladness have triumphed over sorrow and depression many times. I should like to tell of one of these incidents. A member of my family who was very dear to me passed on, leaving me with what seemed a great vacuum and the heavy responsibility of taking over the management of a large household. I became so burdened that it was impossible for me to think clearly about the situation, and a nervous breakdown ensued. A Christian Science practitioner was called for help, and I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for her devoted and consecrated work. The healing took many months to accomplish, but as I realized that I must overcome self-pity, self-depreciation, and self-responsibility, I set about doing this through conscientious study of the Bible and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and her other writings. Once the truths contained therein were faithfully applied, the healing took place, with, of course, great spiritual unfoldment and growth.

One of my mainstays during this period was our dear Leader's statement from "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 165): "Thus may each member of this church rise above the oft-repeated inquiry. What am I? to the scientific response: I am able to impart truth, health, and happiness, and this is my rock of salvation and my reason for existing."
