I wish to express gratitude for...
I wish to express gratitude for the many blessings I have received through the study of Christian Science. I became interested in this Science a little over fifteen years ago at which time I was in a very pitiable condition, suffering from a nervous breakdown. The ministrations of specialists had been entirely powerless to effect even a start toward my recovery, although they were very kind and did their utmost to help me. I became convinced that no doctor could help me to overcome this condition, and it seemed as if the only alternative was to spend the remainder of my life in a sanitarium. At this point, Christian Science was recommended to me by a friend, and while at first I seemed unable to grasp its teachings, I must have felt a renewal of hope, for I continued to see the practitioner, and from the very first night I was able to sleep without taking a sedative. I realized that if I were to be helped I must discontinue taking medicine of any kind. I have not taken any medicine from that moment.
Progress seemed very slow, but I would say, to any who may feel discouraged over seemingly slight prospects of recovery, that healing is the certain reward of faithfulness. Lines 3 to 12, page 61, of "Retrospection and Introspection" by Mrs. Eddy were helpful in handling the malady. In Matthew we read. "The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up." I was one of those who sat in darkness, but who saw great light.
Many other healings have been experienced: symptoms of inflammatory rheumatism, hiccups, nosebleed, a condition of weakness in my right forearm, severe backache, and grief caused by the passing on of a loved one. Dental work has been accomplished without an anesthetic of any kind and without pain.
