[Original testimony in French]
I wish to join those who have...
I wish to join those who have given their testimonies of gratitude.
The road which brought me to an understanding of Christian Science was a very long one, and without the help of a consecrated practitioner I do not know whether I might not have stopped one day on the way. But with unwearying kindness and endless patience, she encouraged me and helped me. I hope that my experience will encourage those whose progress is difficult. May they not halt, but continue to seek, to persevere in their good resolutions, for they will be happy if they do.
During these last years I have learned through the teachings of Christian Science to know the Bible better. It has become my daily guide, and with the help of Mrs. Eddy's works—which I have the joy of reading and studying regularly—I have come to know God as He is, a God of love, mercy, and truth, who is ever present, and in whom I have absolute trust, for He knows all, sees all, and can do all things. God helps us under every circumstance if we cling fast to Him.
We read in II Samuel, "God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect." Sometimes our way seems very difficult. One after another, obstacles arise in our path, and if we do not know where to turn for help, we are often greatly discouraged. However, if we cling fast to Truth, if our trust is unshakable, obstacles of every kind will be overcome. No door, however firmly bolted, will remain closed. No barrier, however high, will continue to loom before us if God be for us. He alone can clear the way, and He will do it if we strive with all our heart to reflect Him by following the teachings of the Christ.
As a result of the war, I had lost a position which I liked, but I did not let myself be discouraged, and I was able to find a new place. I was engaged in an establishment because of the mobilization of the greater part of the personnel, but only on a temporary basis. It was understood that I should leave in a few weeks when my co–workers returned. Two reasons were given for this: first, the organization employed men exclusively; secondly, my age was against me. These two conditions seemed insurmountable obstacles.
I had long since passed the age when I might have hoped, according to human standards, that I would be regularly employed. Christian Science, however, had taught me that man, the idea of God, is never young nor old. Weeks and months passed and I was not dismissed. God had so wonderfully made clear my way that a complete change of policy took place in the management of the business, and not only were my age and sex no longer obstacles, but my financial situation was improved, and I was told I could stay as long as I wished.
This demonstration of the power of Truth has been a great joy to me, and I should be happy if my experience were to help others in similar circumstances. Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 454), "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way."
In closing, I wish to express my deep gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for the work which she began, and which continues to grow.—(Miss) Augusta Rossel, Chantilly s/Lausanne, Switzerland.
