"Stand upright.... Be strong"

He who obeys the first command of the angel to Daniel, to "stand upright," will not fail to comply with the second. He will be strong. He who stands with God, whatever the problem or provocation, will act in His strength.

On page 229 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," Mary Baker Eddy writes, "Truth is strong with destiny; it takes life profoundly; it measures the infinite against the finite." The vision of this came to Daniel as he stood on the banks of the river Hiddekel. There were unrolled before him multiple phases of evil, and at first the shock was so great that he was overwhelmed by it.

Many centuries later the struggle between good and evil was beheld and recorded in the Apocalypse. In speaking of himself in relation with this experience John declares, "I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day." When the test came to him to record "the testimony of Jesus Christ," and "all things that he saw," John knew where he stood. He was aware of the presence of Spirit, of the perfection of creation. He had proved God's power to deliver him and others, he had beheld the Christ; he had been witness to the resurrection and ascension.
