No Grief in Truth's Victory
Conflict and warfare are words we do not enjoy. We wish the time were here when we could banish them forever. That time must come, but when depends on the willingness of men to think aright, to think the thoughts that express the Mind that is Truth, the Mind that is God.
The mission of the Master, and of Christian Science, is to show men that peace is natural, conflict unnatural; that peace can be and will be when they learn to live and to think justly, humbly, righteously, as sons of their common Father, eternal Mind.
Jesus showed the way to peace through the government of men by their all-loving God. He also showed that in the period of transition, from war-producing material-mindedness to the peace-producing consciousness that is the Mind of Christ, conflict and warfare are inevitable. Why? Because mortals do not suddenly change from materiality to spirituality. They discern something of the true and the real, but much undestroyed belief in the material and unreal yet remains. The old and the false resist the new and the true. The result is conflict. The new will not be denied its fuller measure of sovereignty. This is the warfare between flesh and Spirit. It goes on in individual experience, and in every nation's experience. What is a nation but a multiplication of individuals?
