Preparing for Service

[Of Special Interest to Youth]

Every right-thinking person is not only willing but anxious to do all he can to speed the victory of those engaged in the great struggle to preserve liberty, self-government, and the brotherhood of man. Many are fighting in distant lands; many are engaged in the great work of war production, and still others are eagerly looking forward to the time when they will be old enough to qualify for the task of taking an active part in the battle for freedom.

To the latter group comes the call to prepare for the important tasks ahead. For this purpose, schools, boys' clubs, the Boy Scouts, and kindred organizations are laying great stress on the need for physical fitness. The cry goes up on every hand that the country is and will continue to be in need of men and women of strong physical stature. Young people today, perhaps more than ever, are being told that sound health is essential, and health diets and exercise are being urged.

No person can reasonably question the lofty and noble motives which prompt these recommendations and certainly the great desire to aid young people in preparing to serve their country has its reward. However, pupils in Christian Science Sunday Schools are aware of the fact that for them to admit for one instant that medical programs are necessary to the improvement of their health would be for them to admit a power apart from God.
