[Corrective reply, given over Station WGH, Newport News, by W. Marlborough Addison, Committee on Publication for Virginia]

Recently a minister of another Christian denomination, speaking over this station, made certain misstatements regarding Christian Science and its revered Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. The station is now granting me the privilege of giving its listeners a new facts regarding Mrs. Eddy and the religion which she established.

Christian Science is a religion based upon the Bible which is used by other Christian denominations. This organization, which is maintained under the Church Manual by Mary Baker Eddy, may be described as The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, with its branches and administrative activities. In a historical sketch found in the opening pages of the Manual we read: "In the spring of 1879, a little band of earnest seekers after Truth went into deliberations over forming a church without creeds, to be called the 'Church of Christ, Scientist.' They were members of evangelical churches, and students of Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy in Christian Science, and were known as 'Christian Scientists.' "
