Among the Churches

Current Notes

Point Pleasant, New Jersey (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, Point Pleasant, on Sunday, January 4, 1942, dedicated its church edifice at 407 River Avenue, free and clear of all indebtedness, in accordance with the custom of the Christian Science organization requiring churches to be entirely paid for before dedicating.

The following historical sketch, reviewing the progress of Christian Science in this field, was read by the First Reader at both services, one of which was held in the morning, and one in the afternoon:

"In August, 1929, a small group of Christian Scientists, who had been holding services in a private home in Laurelton, New Jersey, came to Point Pleasant and held their services in a house at 620 Arnold Avenue until July, 1930, at which time the need for larger quarters resulted in the group renting space in the Red Men's Hall building at 705 Arnold Avenue.
