"One on God's side"

Those men and women who today are asking, "How can one individual effectively help in banishing from the earth the evils of want, war, sin, disease, and death?" will find an answer to their query in the truth indicated by Wendell Phillips, who said, "One on God's side is a majority." There is no peace for the unstable thought, for him who, believing in two powers, good and evil, endeavors to serve two masters. But there are quietness, assurance, and ultimate triumph for those who align themselves with Christian Science, holding steadfastly to the fact that, because God, good, is omnipotent and omnipresent, there can in reality be no place for, and no truth in, that which opposes good.

Though mankind desires peace, the world is at war. Mary Baker Eddy helps us in an analysis of this contradictory situation when she writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 96): "This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace. The breaking up of material beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence, want and woe, sin, sickness, and death, which assume new phases until their nothingness appears. These disturbances will continue until the end of error, when all discord will be swallowed up in spiritual Truth."

More effective than the armament of navies is the power of Truth, which is destroying the belief in the reality and power of evil; and Christian Scientists have enlisted in the great army of those who are equipped to fight on God's side, to prove the allness of Truth and the unreality of error. Truly, today as yesterday, "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds." We should ask ourselves, "Are we truly arming ourselves with the spiritual understanding which Christian Science gives; and are we going forward to prove increasing each day the supremacy of Spirit and the immortality of the real man, God's reflection?" We are fighting on God's side only as we are loyal to the consciousness of the all-power of divine Love and hourly demonstrate this fact. In this way the peace of the world and the healing of the nations will come.
