It is nearly twenty years since I first heard of Christian Science. I was then staying in Natal, with friends whose knowledge of this beautiful teaching made itself constantly felt in their peaceful, happy home. I gladly studied with them and was soon privileged to experience my first healing. This was of an attack of influenza, which appeared about midday. Help was lovingly given and I was up at half past seven the next morning, the difficulty having vanished as a dream. Previous attacks had meant days in bed.

I am finding Christian Science an inestimable help in the bringing up of our three children, who have experienced many healings, including those of constipation, impetigo, and pneumonia, as well as protection when in contact with chicken pox.

One instance of God's ever-present help will always stand out in my experience. I was out walking, one winter afternoon with two of our children on a country road some distance from the village, and we were hurrying to get home before dark. My daughter, aged eight years, was cycling a few yards ahead when a strange car stopped near her, a man alighted, put her into the car, her cycle on the running board, and drove off, not towards the village, but along a lane. At first I was terrified. Then quickly came "a still small voice," and I knew that wherever she was she could never be taken out of God's presence and so no evil could touch her. I hurried home with my small son, audibly claiming divine protection for her. Just as we reached our gates my daughter rode up on her cycle. She said the man had forced her into the car and had driven quickly along, until the car suddenly and unaccountably stopped. The man got out to see what was wrong, telling her to stay in the car; but she too got out, got her cycle off the car, which seemed humanly impossible, and rode home, the man making no attempt to stop her, thus proving evil powerless before Truth.
