I know that Christian Science...
I know that Christian Science heals, because I have been healed; I know that it comforts in time of sorrow, because I have been comforted; I know it guides one's steps in time of stress and uncertainty, because I have been guided. I also know that the seed of Truth never dies, because after it had seemed to lie dormant for years, I have witnessed its development into power and the beauty of fulfillment.
The physical healings I have experienced have many and varied and have covered a period of about thirty years. Twelve years ago I was restored to health through absolute reliance on Christian Science, after a heart attack had brought me to the very brink of the grave. A dislocated shoulder, resulting from a serious fall, snapped back into place when a Christian Science practitioner entered the room where I was lying, apparently unable to move. All the material laws supposed to govern such an occurrence were set aside during this experience.
Four years ago, a physical disturbance which is thought to incapacitate one permanently was definitely overcome. Shortly after this, because of unusual circumstances, it was necessary for me to assume duties which included much physical labor. Since I was serving each day in the Reading Room, human reasoning argued that such activity under existing conditions was impossible. Mrs. Eddy has stated on page 233 of Science and Health: "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfil." The truth of this statement was clearly made manifest during this experience.
