I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church, and in a branch church, where I am happy to have the opportunity of reading.

Several years ago, before becoming interested in Christian Science, I came home from the factory where I was employed, bent over with a condition which the physician called a bad attack of sciatic rheumatism, and because of which, he stated, it would be necessary for me to remain in bed for a period of at least six weeks. At this stage my wife, who was an earnest student of Christian Science, lovingly invited me to ask for help from a practitioner, which I consented to do. I shall never forget the first statements of Truth that the practitioner made to me after coming to my bedside. Later, when I had explained to her how I felt, she said that my legs had no more intelligence than the legs of a chair which stood near by. To me, at that time, this was a harsh statement, but after it was lovingly explained to me I saw a little of the truth of it, enough so that I was out of bed the following day and back at my work in a few days. I am most grateful for this healing, which took place over six years ago. I have had no recurrence of this condition.

Previous to this time I had had bilious attacks followed by sick headaches, for which I had doctored for over twenty years, and because my father was fighting the same condition I felt it was hereditary. A medical doctor pronounced it incurable. Then I began a more earnest study of Christian Science, and with only a very small understanding of the truths contained in our beloved Leader's works, I decided that if the physician could not help me, neither could medicines, so I discarded forty-six kinds of medicine, and have not used any material aid since that time. I realized I had been a slave to medicine, and when I declared and accepted my God-given freedom, the bowels began to manifest normal activity, and my freedom has continued ever since, for which I am very grateful.
