While I have had many proofs of the healing efficacy of...
While I have had many proofs of the healing efficacy of Christian Science over a period of years, I feel inspired at this time to write of my first healing through this Science.
I was suffering from tuberculosis of both lungs, and consulted several specialists, one being rated by some as the finest in the world on this disease. I changed climates and carried out their instructions to the letter, only to become increasingly worse. I was not acquainted with Christian Science or any Christian Scientists. My aunt, however, who lived in Connecticut and was about my age, broke into tears one day in the midst of a music lesson. Her teacher learned that her grief was due to my condition, and he had her at once meet his wife, who was a Christian Scientist. She lovingly gave my aunt a copy of The Christian Science Journal and one of the Christian Science Sentinel to forward to me. I read these with interest and hope, but not much understanding. Apparently I was not any better, but was less fearful and more hopeful.
I had started in business when I was very young, and for several years had drawn a splendid salary; but having been away from my profession for several years and having spent all my money in vain attempts to regain my health, I found myself entirely without funds. I read and reread those periodicals. One day I telephoned to a business acquaintance, and within twenty-four hours he agreed to give me work in my profession for two hours a day at a salary that would cover my needs. I dragged myself to and from my office, lying down from the moment I arrived home until it was time to go again. Although I suffered, I was not fearful, and I continued to read those periodicals. After several months I procured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and over a period of several weeks read one hundred and ninety pages.
