"Quick, and powerful"

Christian Science is based entirely and wholly on the Scriptures. It teaches and proves that they are not abstract theories or a mere historical record, but that they contain demonstrable truths and provable facts. Their promises can be unfailingly verified in actual experience, and, when put to the test, are not found wanting. One such glorious promise is found in Hebrews: "The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." As herein used, "word" means far more than a mere symbol or human statement. Christian Science teaches us that God is Mind, the only Mind, the one supreme intelligence of the universe. Its sure basis is set forth on page 468 of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, where we learn that "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." That which is infinite is illimitable and supreme. God is infinite in power, everywhere present, and infinite in wisdom. Since God is Mind and infinite, Mind is possessed of all potency, is everywhere expressed, and knows all that is actual, good, and true.

An infinite Mind could only express itself in a universe of ideas which, like their creator, must be good, right, and true. A word expresses a mental concept, and "the word of God" is that which expresses Him, His nature, character, and attributes. A right idea or expression of God is potent because it has the infinite power of creative Mind behind it. It has the irresistible impulsion of that divine energy which brought it into being. God is everywhere present, and the right ideas which emanate from Him are present to heal, help, bless, and protect. These right and healing ideas are not limited by time, human conditions, or seeming obstacles. There is a right idea or fact about every condition or situation, which is at hand to correct that which seems to be false, to heal that which has need of healing, to establish that which is right and abolish that which is wrong. A right idea is a law of destruction to a false belief, and a divine fact is a law of extermination to that which is false and unreal. The element of time enters in only when the fact is not fully understood or there is a reluctance to acknowledge it.

The Bible tells us, "Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear." The divine fact is present before the human need arises. It does not have to be brought into being, but has only to be acknowledged and realized. Jesus was so thoroughly cognizant of the divine verities of being that he could bring them into manifestation without the slightest delay. He knew that the divine actualities of Life could not be repressed or depressed, and through his clear realization they immediately appeared. His understanding was such that he could heal instantly, and sweep away the mists of false belief which would try to obscure and hide God's creation of His wholly good ideas.
