The friend who told me of Christian Science presented...

The friend who told me of Christian Science presented such a wonderful concept of God to me that to understand "Him whom to know aright is Life eternal" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, pref., p. vii) has been the high goal of all my endeavors since. I had already had sufficient proof that ignorantly to worship God was not the true way of life, and so I turned at once to the study of Christian Science with an eagerness that has never waned through the years.

At that time my world was governed by the beliefs of luck and chance. I saw the most ingenious displays of human sagacity rise and fall with persistent regularity. Nothing was stable or secure. Sudden riches, and more sudden want, with all their attendant upheavals, came and went as the changing seasons. Pent-up emotions concealed under a cloak of nonchalance, together with the uncertain outlook on our affairs, had made a physical wreck of me.

However, none of this entered my thought as I started reading our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. And there are no words to express the gratitude I feel for the heavenly sense of peace, quietness, and safety that flowed into my life as I learned that God is ever-present good, and that good alone governs man and the universe, all held securely in the grasp of divine Principle, as is so lovingly explained in the textbook. How gladly I gave up my "notion of chance" for "the proper sense of God's unerring direction" (ibid., p. 424)! And how grateful I am for the harmony this brought into my life!
