In a recent issue a correspondent makes reference to a letter of mine concerning Christian Science, and cites several instances in his personal experience which indicate to him that Christian Science is what he has previously stated it to be, namely, a "combination of truth and error." He acknowledges certain benefits which friends have received from this religion, and this acknowledgment and his evident sincerity have been gratefully noted, but he goes on to relate experiences which he believes prove that Christian Science healing is quite limited in its scope, and on this point, and for the benefit of your readers, I feel that further evidence should be offered.
Christian Science healing is no longer a matter of conjecture; it is one of record. Literally thousands of written testimonies of healing by this method have been published in the Christian Science periodicals, and there is contained among them the record of healing of practically every known disease. The statements with regard to healing made in these testimonies are carefully verified. Each week in the Christian Science Sentinel and each month in The Christian Science Journal there will be found copies of further testimonies which re continually being received from all parts of the civilized world. To this great mass of written evidence, there must also be added the verbal testimonies given at the Wednesday evening meetings of this denomination, wherever there is a Christian Science church. The listener will hear many of these testimonies ring out with such tones of conviction and gratitude as to preclude any doubt concerning the speaker's sincerity and earnestness.
Included among those who have thus testified to the healing efficacy of Christian Science are men and women well known in the social, business, and professional world, whose integrity and intelligence are publicly recognized as above question. This great volume of evidence cannot be lightly set aside. One may honestly disagree with the teachings of this religion, but any impartial critic is bound by the very weight of this evidence to admit that Christian Science has healed and is healing all manner of disease.
