In recording for publication the instantaneous healing of a scorpion sting through the work of a Christian Science practitioner, my heart is full of gratitude to our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and gave to the world the Science of healing as practiced by Christ Jesus.

Whilst sorting some copies of The Christian Science Monitor, which I had stored for future reference, I felt a sharp pain in my hand and was horrified to discover that a large scorpion, hidden among the papers, had stung me. For a moment I was nearly overcome with fear and pain. Then I called to my husband in the next room, telling him what had taken place and asking him to telephone a request for help to a Christian Science practitioner over fifty miles away. Although it was a holiday, Love's protecting care was evidenced when the practitioner answered the call at once. I spoke to him for a few moments and was immediately reassured by his calmness and promise of immediate treatment. He recommended me to continue with my work and to sing all the hymns I knew from the Christian Science Hymnal.

I felt relief from the intense pain in the hand and arm at once, and in about ten minutes all sense of pain and fear had vanished. I think I shall always remember the wonderful feeling of happiness and gratitude which flooded my consciousness like beautiful sunshine after a storm. I just wanted to pour out songs of praise to God for His wonderful goodness. A verse from the Bible was illumined as never before by this experience: "Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."
