Christian Science came to me in the fall of 1915, after other methods of treatment, including a capital operation, had failed to restore my health.

The opening lines of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings," filled my consciousness with the allness of God, and gave me strength and courage to work out my own salvation. I had much opposition, so I had to work alone with God from the first, but I knew that I could trust Him fully. Today I am grateful that the way was not made too easy, for what is worth having is worth striving for.

My early healings were accomplished while I was reading and studying our textbook. Paralysis of the bowels was healed in less than two weeks. The healing of throat trouble came during the singing of a hymn at a Wednesday evening testimony metting. About six weeks later chronic claims of weak heart and kidneys, colds, false appetites, and hasty temper were destroyed when self-seen as errors of thought. Many other healings were accomplished during a church service or a Christian Science lecture.
