Fear of Darkness Overcome

[Written Especially for Children]

This is a true story about little Dorothy, who believed that she was very much afraid of the dark; so much so, in fact, that whenever her daddy and mummy tucked her up in bed and kissed her good-night they had to leave the electric light on. Perhaps she had been told of things happening in the dark, and maybe she had believed them, and that was why she was afraid.

Not long after Dorothy's mother became interested in Christian Science, and commenced to study it, the way was unfolded for Dorothy to attend the Christian Science Sunday School. She was put in a class with other little folks of about her age; and what a lovely time they had! There were chairs just big enough for them, a small table to match the chairs, and a hymn book for each one. Dorothy enjoyed it immensely.

The teacher told the children some of the interesting and wonderful stories found in the Bible. For in the Bible there are stories about great men and women like Moses, Joshua, Ruth, Joseph, Samuel, David, Mary; and most wonderful of all, the story about Jesus. They were told that at one time these were small children, but grew to be great because they learned to understand and love God and to listen for His voice. Then they were told that God is Love, the Father and Mother of all; that God loves and cares for everyone, and that because He is all-powerful and everywhere all the time, there was really nothing to be afraid of day or night.
