I should like to add my thanksgiving and praise to God,...
I should like to add my thanksgiving and praise to God, who, as we learn through Christian Science, heals all our diseases.
I was lying ill in Switzerland with what the doctors diagnosed as tuberculosis of both lungs. My husband was very much upset, for the doctors said that I would not be well again for years, and they spoke most seriously to us both. A friend in the hotel came in one day with a Christian Science Sentinel which she left with me, calling my attention to a special article in it. I read all that periodical and another which she brought me. Then I asked her if she could lend me the textbook, which was always mentioned in the articles, and she lent me her copy. When I had read some of the chapter on Fruitage I just expected to be well. Soon after I began reading the textbook the doctor came one day and looked at me intently, saying, "I am looking to see if you are the same patient, you are so much better." I asked my friend to get me a copy of Science and Health for my own, and she sent it to me on her return to England. I was allowed to go home in the spring with one lung healed; and I saw a doctor only twice after that—on my arrival and some weeks later when he came to see me—but when the trouble entirely vanished I do not know. In the autumn I went to a Christian Science church for the first time and felt the wonderful peace of it all.
Since then, over six years, many difficulties have been overcome, including an enlarged spleen with much internal displacement, kidney trouble, rheumatism, all sorts of throat trouble, and anæmia. I am so grateful for the wonderful literature, for class instruction, for my church work, and that I am able to give out even a little of the glory of it all. No words can ever express my gratitude.—(Mrs.) Christina Johnstone Smith, Brasted Chart, Kent, England.
