I became acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science about eleven years ago, but I was not very earnest in taking up a thorough study of it until a seemingly stubborn difficulty tried to overwhelm me. Medical skill was unavailing to free me from a painful open sore on my foot.

Through the help of a Christian Scientist I learned how to gain a better understanding of the wonderful truths about God and man created in His likeness. However, the healing did not come at that time; on the contrary, the trouble seemed to be aggravated. In my extremity I clung more firmly to divine Love, and earnestly prayed that God would show me the way to become well. I frequently became aware of the "still small voice" pointing out to me many mortal faults; and in proportion as I made more constant endeavor to lay aside my material sense of self, I realized healing, proving the words of Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 243), "The same 'Mind ... which was also in Christ Jesus' must always accompany the letter of Science in order to confirm and repeat the ancient demonstrations of prophets and apostles."
