"Rejoicing in the affluence of our God"

The word "affluent" includes in its meaning not only the possession of abundance, but also the continuous, spontaneous giving out of that abundance. It presents the thought of movement, the activity of abundance; and when applied to Deity it points to the all-inclusive good constantly poured out upon man by the loving Father, God.

That understanding of, and rejoicing in, this wealth of our Father are natural companions and should advance hand in hand, Mrs. Eddy has pointed out to us on page 140 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she says, "We shall obey and adore in proportion as we apprehend the divine nature and love Him understandingly, warring no more over the corporeality, but rejoicing in the affluence of our God." Such rejoicing breaks down the belief of limitation.

A so-called self-sacrificing mother had cultivated the habit of giving up things of beauty and quality for herself because she believed that only by such means could her children's needs be met, after earnest study and prayer suddenly realized with joy that an affluent God is able to supply everybody's needs. Releasing her vision of God from limitation, she released herself and her children from limitation.
