Infinite Possibilities
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE teaches that "man's possibilities are infinite." Mrs. Eddy used these quoted words on page 330 of her "Miscellaneous Writings." The idea which they express belongs to everybody; it is universal. This idea will pay dividends according to an ascending scale to anybody who will accept it upon its entirely reasonable terms. Moreover, this idea is offered now (at any time), and always without an increase of terms, even when human conditions may be exceptionally difficult or human needs particularly urgent.
Christian Science declares that man's infinite possibilities are open to anybody who will pay for them the price of cultivating and using spiritual sense—the truly good sense which already is really and rightfully ours. This offer, moreover, has the sanction of the only power which never fails. Furthermore, a careful reckoning discloses that accepting this offer and paying the stated price involves doing nothing more than what each and every person ought to do anyway, to fulfill his individual obligations.
Then, what are the steps by which one can develop his spiritual sense? The first one is to gain at least the beginning of the true concept of Deity. The Apostle John, an intelligent disciple of the greatest Teacher, furnished a good start toward this concept when he summed up the Master's teaching in these words (I John 1:5): "This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all." This truth is of the utmost value to human beings, for all that is wrong with anybody can be traced to the seeming presence of darkness in human consciousness.
