Evening Post

I should be glad of further space in your paper to correct a wrong impression which your correspondent, "H.A.S.," may have caused by his letter in last night's Evening Post. His statement implying that Christian Scientists lack completely "the power to understand the requirements of sound testimony," and that they therefore "fall a prey to superstitious beliefs," is most certainly an incorrect one.

Medical men are not likely to give Christian Science the credit for healing where they may think proofs are lacking, yet thousands of cases healed by this means have been examined by medical men, and the healings have been admitted by them. The time has gone by when denunciations carry any weight, for the number of cases healed by spiritual means alone are too numerous and well-authenticated to admit of discussion; and there is overwhelming evidence of this always open for any honest investigator. "Courage is needed" in the churches, as your correspondent states, moral courage that will enable them to take their stand on the side of God, putting material means and methods behind them, knowing that we cannot serve God and mammon.

Another point that I would like to correct is the statement your correspondent makes that Christian Scientists refuse "to see God in His healing power in the medical profession and hospitals." Christian Scientists recognize and give thanks for all loving, faithful service wherever found, and they are grateful to the many noble men and women, doctors and nurses, who have given themselves to a life of service, and have thereby helped to heal and comfort poor suffering humanity.
