I have been encouraged and strengthened and healed so...
I have been encouraged and strengthened and healed so many times through the splendid testimonies given in the Journal and Sentinel that I feel the least I can do is to cast what bread I have upon the waters, trusting that it may bring encouragement to others.
It was about the year 1912 that I first became interested in Christian Science after investigating "new-thought" and other isms which looked promising but proved useless. I was groping in the darkness of false belief and depression, and brooding over the passing on of a loved one, when an aunt suggested Christian Science treatment. I at once accepted, and soon took up the study of Christian Science earnestly. Since that time it has brought me a measure of peace and continual blessing.
A healing which took place some time ago was an infection of the thumb. To sense the inflammation was spreading up the arm and the evidence was quite alarming, but when, after several days, fear was thoroughly eliminated, the healing came and I did not lose the thumb nail as had been predicted. I have also laid aside glasses and have suffered no inconvenience, although an aculist told my mother when I was a child that I should always have to wear them.
Recently our baby fell out of bed, striking upon his face. I picked him up and a short time later noticed discoloration on one cheek and around the eye. The thought came, It depends on you whether this shall be so or not; and I said, It shall not be so. Then the thought came, It is because of fear. But I knew that fear has no power. I placed the baby in his bed, and when I took him up about two hours later there was no swelling or discoloration—just a little scratch on his nose. This may seem a small incident, but it was another proof to me that we can bring out the harmonious sense of being. On page 428 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes, "The great spiritual fact must be brought out that man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal." This can be done; and in Science and Health we are told how to do it. This statement of our Leader is a great inspiration to me.
I am very grateful for class instruction, which our Leader in her wisdom has provided for students of Christian Science, and also for the loving practitioners who are ever ready to help when the waves of error would engulf us.
