"The remedy for Adam, or error"
On page 534 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy defines the mission of Christ Jesus in an extraordinarily concise sentence: "The Son of the Virgin-mother unfolded the remedy for Adam, or error." Now this statement cannot be grasped in the fullness of its meaning without a study of the definition of "Adam" on pages 579 and 580 of the Christian Science textbook. Such a study reveals that the word "Adam," as used by Mrs. Eddy, includes all the material beliefs arising from the false claim that life inheres in matter, is generated by matter and is supported by it—all that is unlike God and His spiritual and perfect universe. How comprehensive becomes our Leader's statement in the light of the all-inclusive definition of the Adam-belief! Moreover, since Christ Jesus revealed the remedy for all false belief, the antidote for every phase of error, it follows that all who seek salvation and freedom from errors of the flesh must find the universal remedy which Jesus unfolded, and finding it, lay hold of it as life's most precious possession, the pearl without price.
What, then, was the sovereign remedy unfolded by Jesus of which Mrs. Eddy spoke so assuredly? On page 495 of Science and Health, in setting forth the means whereby evil is destroyed, she admonishes her students to find "a sovereign antidote for error in the life-giving power of Truth acting on human belief." This, then, is the remedy. The power of the Christ, Truth,—life-giving because it reveals God as infinite Life reflected by man,—is the sovereign remedy which, acting upon the erroneous beliefs held by mortals, destroys them, supplanting them with spiritual truth. That this is the "sovereign antidote for error" of every type there can be no doubt; for no phase of erroneous belief can withstand the mighty power of the Christ, Truth, when once Truth is laid hold of.
Christ Jesus revealed the omnipotence and omnipresence of God, the divine all-power and all-presence, so perfectly that there cannot be slightest doubt as to the accuracy of his conclusions. He explored the way whereby others may prove for themselves that God is the Father-Mother, divine Love, ever ready through the glorious ministry of His Christ to aid mortals in overcoming the false sense of life and existence by gaining a correct understanding of God and His universe.
