The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Huntington Park, California (First Church).
Lecturer: W. Stuart Booth; introduced by Cullen C. Evans, who said:—
Christian Science was brought very forcibly to my attention about seven years ago through the instantaneous healing of my wife of a very painful attack of rheumatism. She was healed entirely through the loving work of a Christian Science practitioner. As a result of this healing we became interested in Christian Science, and shortly after that moved to this city and began attending church in this edifice. I had been a user of tobacco for over thirty-five years, having become an inveterate smoker. After trying many times to rid myself of this habit, but without success, I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner and was healed in one treatment. That was over four years ago, and I have never smoked or desired to smoke since. I have also been healed of lumbago, sick headaches, and much wrong thinking. I can truthfully say that Christian Science does heal, and for this I am indeed grateful.
Portsmouth, England (First Church).
Lecturer: William Duncan Kilpatrick; introduced by Mrs. Ellen Georgina Nangle, who said:—
Many years ago I heard of Christian Science, but it seemed to me to be too idealistic to be of practical value. However, soon afterwards I put it to the test when one of my children seemed very ill. Seven doctors at different times had all diagnosed the case as congential and incurable, and as a last hope I applied to a Christian Science practitioner for help. She explained to me that God really is divine Love, and that He never sends sickness; and on the basis of that fundamental fact the child was cured in three weeks. This proved to me that the truth as taught in Christian Science is both practical and demonstrable. It is a very wonderful thing to have such a positive assurance that God is Love. Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I have found that to be true on innumerable occasions during the last fifteen years.
Shreveport, Louisiana (First Church).
Lecturer: Prof. Hermann S. Hering; introduced by Mrs. Martha Hardy Trimble, who said:—
Wherever our lectures are given throughout the world, healings of many kinds, physical, mental, and moral, are of frequent occurrence. A Christian Science lecture that I heard several years ago marked an important turning point in my life. The import of that Christly message has often comforted me during times of trial. At a subsequent lecture I was healed of a poignant sense of sorrow. At our last lecture I was liberated from a condition that had troubled me for some time. An authorized Christian Science lecture is one of the means that God has appointed for the redemption of mankind. It always points out the way of salvation through Christ Jesus. When we are ready to receive the blessing, healing not only is possible, but becomes a glorious reality at the present moment.
New York, New York (Third Church).
Lecturer: Peter V. Ross; introduced by J. Peter Kuber, who said:—
Men are seeking to obtain a better understanding of infinite Mind, God, who heals through the Christ. Christian Science in this century is demonstrating the truth and teaching the world how to be happier, holier, and healthier; and not only healthier, but how to gain a higher sense of health. About twelve years ago I was healed through Christian Science of tuberculosis, which was accompanied with the conviction of the medical faculty that my life on this plane could exist only for one year at most. My presenting the lecturer of the evening to you bears witness of the healing power of God, as unfolded by the teachings in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.
